About Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement, muscle control, cognition, and balance. In LTC facilities, residents with Parkinson’s often face complex challenges that require a coordinated care approach.
As the disease progresses, symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, slowed movements, and cognitive changes become more pronounced. This can lead to difficulties with mobility, communication, eating, and other activities of daily living, where nursing staff provide crucial daily support.
To enhance the care of your residents with Parkinson’s disease, we have included an information resource from the Parkinson’s Foundation to share with your nursing and clinical team.
