Indiana POST Now Endorsed By National POLST Paradigm Task Force

13 Dec Indiana POST Now Endorsed By National POLST Paradigm Task Force

It’s official! The Indiana Physician Orders for Scope of Treatment (POST) Program is now endorsed by the National POLST Paradigm Task Force as meeting the national standards established through consensus by POLST-using states. Indiana is the 25th state to achieve endorsement status. According to the national program website (www.polst.org):

“Endorsed programs are POLST Paradigm Programs that have become standard components of advance care planning in their location. These programs have addressed legal and regulatory issues associated with POLST, and have developed strategies for ongoing implementation and quality assurance.”

The Indiana Patient Preferences Coalition first convened in 2010 to explore the development of legislation to permit use of this advance care planning tool in Indiana. Members and supporters have spent countless hours working together on the legislative effort, developing supporting materials, providing education, and leading implementation efforts to help ensure the preferences of seriously ill patients are known and honored. Thank you to everyone for your hard work in achieving this milestone!
